At least 200 people were killed and injured during the recent US military operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, the country’s Minister of Interior said on Thursday.
During his weekly programme Con el Mazo Dando (With the Club in Action), Diosdado Cabello described the attack as “horrific,” noting that President Maduro sustained a leg wound, while First Lady Cilia Maduro suffered head and body injuries.
Yesterday, Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, declared a week of mourning for those who died, honoring “the young people, women, and men who sacrificed their lives defending Venezuela and President Nicolás Maduro.”
Maduro currently faces several charges in the US, including drug trafficking and drug-related terrorism. During his trial, he rejected the accusations, pleading not guilty. His lawyer indicated that the defense is not seeking his release on bail at this stage but may pursue that option in the future.
