US President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that the downing of an American warplane by Iran would not affect any negotiations between the two countries.

In a brief phone interview with NBC News, Trump declined to discuss details of search and rescue operations related to the incident, describing them as “intense and sensitive,” and dismissed any diplomatic impact from the escalation. “No, not at all. No, it’s war,” he said.

Iran’s military, meanwhile, announced that its air defense systems had intercepted and destroyed a US Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II over southern waters near the Strait of Hormuz, stating that further details would be released later.

Earlier today, officials cited by The New York Times reported that US forces were searching for a pilot who had ejected from a downed F-15E Strike Eagle over Iran, while a second crew member was rescued. Iranian officials added that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had sealed off an area in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province where the pilot was believed to have landed.
