Fake security officer arrested selling drugs in Baghdad

Iraq’s security forces detained a man in Baghdad who allegedly posed as a National Security Service member while selling drugs from his vehicle, the General Directorate of Traffic said on Sunday.
The suspect was arrested in the New Baghdad district on the eastern side of the capital after traffic patrols tried to stop his vehicle and he attempted to flee. Officers found drugs and several weapons in his possession.
Since 2023, authorities have confiscated 16.8 tons of narcotics, secured 380 death sentences and 150 life sentences, and issued 190 international arrest warrants in drug-related cases. Baghdad has also established 16 rehabilitation centers for drug users, where about 9,500 people have received treatment. More than 8,000 have completed their rehabilitation programs.
