Shafaq News / The Committee of labor and Social Affairs in the Iraqi Parliament said, on Wednesday, that Iraq employs three million foreign workers, stressing the need to reconsider their numbers and take advantage of the domestic workforce.

A member of the committee, Fadel Al-Fatlawi, told Shafaq News agency, "Demonstrations demanding job opportunities is a legitimate right", calling on the government to respond to the demonstrator's demands.

He added, "One million foreign workers are currently working in companies operating in Iraq, including oil companies", stressing, "90% of the workforce in oil companies are foreigners of different nationalities".

He continued, "Labor and Social Affairs committee in the Iraqi Parliament is working on legislating laws that serve the citizen through activating the private sector and creating job opportunities for graduates and the unemployed citizens, as well as reviewing the numbers of foreign workers in the country".

It is noteworthy that the widespread unemployment among Iraqis has prompted thousands of citizens to storm the streets demanding jobs, services and reform.
