A parliamentary bloc rejects domestic violence
Shafaq News/ Al-Nahj National bloc refused the domestic violence law daft, claiming that it, "opposes the fundamentals of Islam and the Iraqi constitution".
The head of the bloc, Ammar Tohmeh, said in a statement received by Shafaq News agency, "the law draft has dangerous implications that threaten the stability of the Iraqi family and society", adding, "The law draft denies the right of parents to educate and discipline their children, which contradicts the Article 29 of the Iraqi constitution".
Tohmeh pointed that, "the law draft prohibits parents from communicating with their children, and prevents the husband from communicating with his wife in case of conflict, whether at home or in the workplace, unless supervised by the Ministry of Interior Directorate".
"The law grants civil society organizations and individuals the right to open and manage safe shelters, and be the alternative to fathers and mothers in raising their children. This aims at enabling liberal organizations to exert cultural conquest and intellectual alienation of Iraqi children. It separates them from their national and religious values and culture".
