Crowds grow at Baghdad's Tishreen anniversary protest
Shafaq News- Baghdad
Iraqis continued to arrive at Baghdad's Tahrir Square on Sunday to mark the seventh anniversary of the 2019 Tishreen protests, with hundreds gathering amid tight security.
Demonstrators waved Iraqi flags and chanted slogans, including "The
people want the fall of the regime" and "Iran out, Tishreen remains
free."
Protester Jassim Hamid told Shafaq News that participants gathered to honor those killed in 2019 and renew their commitment to seeking "a free country without foreign interference."
Khalid Ali Hassan, protester, said the Tishreen movement represented Iraqis' struggle against corruption, political power-sharing, poor public services, and unemployment.
Riot police established a tight security cordon around the demonstration, restricting protesters to the area near Al-Umma Garden behind the monument in Tahrir Square. Security forces also deployed heavily in the nearby Bab Al-Sharqi district to maintain traffic flow.
