Britain convenes 36-nation summit to unlock Strait of Hormuz

About 36 countries will convene on Thursday in an effort to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital shipping lanes, disrupted amid the US–Israeli war against Iran, BBC News reported.
Chaired by British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, the virtual meeting seeks to examine diplomatic and political options to restore freedom of navigation, secure stranded vessels, and revive the flow of essential goods.
Maritime traffic through the Strait has been disrupted following Iranian “attacks on commercial shipping, alongside warnings of further strikes.'' The developments have constrained a key route for global oil exports and pushed crude prices higher, reaching $107 a barrel.
The United States will not attend the meeting, with US President Donald Trump previously stating that securing the Strait of Hormuz is “not America’s mission,” while urging US allies to “go get their own oil.”
