Iraq’s Foreign Ministry held an expanded security meeting to review the protection of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions in the country, the ministry said on Wednesday.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Nayef Al-Dulaimi described the safety of diplomatic missions, their staff, and nationals as a “red line,” calling for strict enforcement of security measures. He stressed the need for coordination among relevant agencies and higher alert levels to prevent attacks.

He also directed a study on establishing a joint operations room to manage risks and respond immediately to any threats targeting diplomatic missions or their personnel in Iraq.

The message comes amid a surge in attacks targeting diplomatic missions and foreign-linked sites across Iraq, including rocket and drone strikes on embassies, consulates, and facilities hosting international personnel, in what analysts link to escalating tensions between the United States and Iran playing out on Iraqi territory.
