Iraqi intelligence foils an oil theft attempt from a major pipeline

Shafaq News / The Military Directorate of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Friday thwarting an oil theft by breaking a pipeline between two governorates.

In a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, the directorate said, "In order to complete its tasks in pursuing organized crime gangs and preserving national wealth and in a process characterized by accurate intelligence information, the Military Intelligence Division detachments in the 36th Brigade, 9th Division, Basra Operations Command, and a force from the second regiment, the Commando Brigade, thwarted An oil robbery operation by breaking the conveyor tube from the Bazerkan field in Maysan to Al-Faw".

The statement explained, "The gang was intending to open a hole in the pipe in the Al-Ghomaih area and insert a 150-meter-long hook that was connected to a Volvo tank to load the stolen oil".

"As soon as the force entered the area, the gang fled leaving the tanker and the shaft attached to it, which were seized and handed over to the relevant authorities".
