Shafaq News / Two parliamentary sources ruled out holding a session of the Iraqi parliament on Saturday due to the profound differences over the paragraph related to electoral districts in the new election law.

One of the sources told Shafaq News agency, "sharp disagreements between the parliamentary blocs surfaced during their meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, regarding the electoral districts".

The source ruled out holding a parliament session today, due to the lack of political consensus between the blocs on the multiple districts.

The other source told Shafaq News agency, "The meeting did not agree on a final proposal or formula regarding electoral districts, but it is still underway".

"The presidency of Parliament will postpone voting on electoral districts until Al-Arbaeen. If the parties do not agree on a formula or a final draft to divide the electoral districts into the governorates".

The Parliament has yet to convene due to the lack of a quorum for the members present due to disputes over the electoral districts.

Today’s session is scheduled to settle disputes over electoral districts, in preparation for passing the law on which holding the early parliamentary elections, next June, depends.
