Powerful quake rocks Iran-Iraq border

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit the border area of Iran and Iraq on Monday evening, Iranian state media said.

The epicenter of the quake was near the town of Ezgeleh, Iran, but the shake was felt in Kermanshah, Radyo Inquirer 990 AM reported.

According to the Iranian Seismological Center, the quake had a depth of 10 kilometers.

While Iranian media reported the quake at 6.0 magnitude, the US Geological Survey (USGS) measured it at magnitude at 5.4.

The USGS said that the quake struck Halabjah, Iraq at 10:09 p.m. (local time) and had a depth of 17 kilometers.

Both the Iranian media and USGS did not issue any casualties.

Last November, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck the same Iran-Iraq border that killed 530 people, reports said. /cbb
