US Secretary of Defense calls Abdul-Mahdi and expresses his concern about facilities being exposed to strikes in Iraq

Shafaq News / US Defense Secretary, Mark Asper made a phone call to resigned Iraqi Prime Minister ,Adel Abdul-Mahdi, according to the media office of the latter.

The office stated in a statement today that the American Secretary of State expressed his concern that some facilities were subjected to strikes, and that measures should be taken to stop this.

 Abdul-Mahdi also expressed his "concern for these developments, and demanded that serious efforts would be made with the participation of all, to prevent the escalation that would develop threat to all parties, and that any weakening of the government and the Iraqi state would encourage escalation and chaos" as in the statement.

The statement added that Abdul-Mahdi, who heads a caretaker government, "warned that taking unilateral decisions will have negative reactions that are difficult to control and threaten the security, sovereignty and independence of Iraq."
