Shafaq News / A local official in Salahuddin Governorate said on Thursday, that ISIS targets were destroyed by air strikes west of Al-Sharqat district, north of the governorate, on the border with Nineveh Governorate.

“The warplanes bombed ISIS targets, west of the district within the borders of Al-Sharqat with Al-Hadar sub-district, south of Nineveh Governorate, which resulted in the destruction of several organization's dens in the areas of Al-Sharqat and the outskirts of Al-Hadar district, according to security information,” The District administration manager, Khairallah Al-Jubouri told Shafaq News.

"Those areas were a springboard for terrorist attacks and operations," explaining that "the number of killed elements of the organization as a result of the strikes was not clear precisely because of the destruction caused by the severe air strikes,” Al-Jubouri  added.

The joint border areas between Nineveh, Salahuddin and Anbar governorates, are considered dangerous strongholds of armed organizations and contain gunmen who fled during the liberation operations of the western provinces in 2017 to escape security prosecutions.
