MPs of Al-Fatah and the State of Law withdrew from the parliamentary session

Shafaq News / MPs of the state of law bloc, led by Nuri al-Maliki, and Al-Fatah coalition, led by Hadi Al-Amiri, withdrew from today's parliamentary session, because of their opposition to the draft electoral districts. The two blocs withdrawal from the session breaks the quorum required for its completion.

 According to Shafaq News Agency, a number of Kurdish and Sunni MPs also withdrew from the session in protest to the draft.

 Parliament had started its session shortly before, after a delay of four hours, and the Legal Committee began with the reading the report on the annex to Article 15 of the electoral law related to electoral districts. Afterwards, the Presidency of the Council of Representatives distributed the final draft of the electoral districts to the members of Parliament.

 During the session, the blocs of Sairoon, Al-Hikma, the Iraqi Forces, Al-Nasr and the National Union announced their support for adopting multiple districts between a minimum of three and a maximum of five in one governorate.

 Shafaq News agency reporter said that MPs from the State of Law and Al-Fatah blocs entered the session to vote on the article on electoral districts against the wishes of their bloc's leadership.
