Shafaq News / The Iraqi parliament voted on Thursday to oblige the government to establish a national telecommunications company.

Shafaq News Agency reporter said that the council of Representatives voted to approve the request of the Media and Communications Committee to include a resolution draft that obliges the government to establish a national communications company.

Earlier, the Parliamentary Services Committee expressed its strong rejection of the Cabinet's decision to renew the licenses of the three mobile phone companies operating in the country (Zain, Asia Cell, and Korek) for the next five years, and suggested establishing government mobile companies.

On the seventh of last July, the Iraqi government announced the renewal of the licenses of mobile phone companies for an additional five years in exchange for paying 50% of their debts and launching the 4G service, which sparked anger and parliamentary and popular protests.
