Kurdistan: Syrian refugees repatriate voluntarily to their country

Shafaq News / United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), announced on Sunday, the return of Syrian refugees to their country after the decision of the region's government to open Faysh Khabur border crossing with Syria.

"500 Syrian refugees in Duhok Governorate have registered their names at the UNHCR for voluntary repatriation to Syria, after the decision of the provincial government to open the Faysh Khabur border," UNHCR media official Rashid Hussain told Shafaq News agency. Hussain added that, "60 refugees crossed the border to Syria today", explaining that, "the reasons for voluntary repatriation, according to the refugees, are the economic crisis and the lack of job opportunities in Kurdistan region."

It is noteworthy that the refugees who returned to Syria from Kurdistan, due to Covid-19 outbreak and the economic crisis, approximates 850 refugees.

The Organization of Refugee Affairs in Kurdistan Region announced that Syrians who sought refuge to Kurdistan region amount to 247 Syrian.
