Shafaq News / The Governor of Wasit, Muhammad al-Mayyahi warned on Tuesday that the governorate may become afflicted by the outbreak of   Covid-19 (Corona virus), calling on residents to "prepare" for difficult days to come in which we may lose a lot of "our loved ones".

"We met as the crisis cell in Wasit to come up with decisions that contribute to limit or control the spread of the pandemic and deal with the catastrophe in our governorate," noting that “the meeting decisions included preparing a plan for the regional quarantine to be implemented next week,” a  statement from the local government quoted Al- Mayyahi as saying.

"The number of declared confirmed cases is very large and the unannounced is double, we will not be able to control the spread of the pandemic without the cooperation of the families," stressing "the application of self quarantine for those who did not have symptoms or breathing problems."

He added that the decisions included "opening quarantine centers in Al-Hay, Al-Nu'maniya, Essaouira, and Al-Azizia districts to reduce the burden on Al-Zahra General Hospital and emphasize on preventing gatherings ; it is the duty and responsibility of citizens to commit with the procedures .

Al-Mayahi hold "the central government all the repercussions of the medical relapse because it did not allocate sufficient funds to limit the spread of the pandemic," noting that “the governorate did not get the funds allocated to treat Covid-19”.

He concluded by saying, "All of our measures will not be beneficial without the cooperation and commitment of the people, the widespread spread of the pandemic is due to not abiding by the prevention instructions."

Covid-19 infections have increased dramatically in Iraq to exceed 1000 cases daily with high death rate, while Wasit Governorate recorded, last Sunday, a new death with Corona for a woman whose husband died in turn due to the virus, thereof the leadership of the provincial police announced a compete curfew and decided to prevent entry and exit from the province, starting from yesterday, Monday, until further notice.
