Baghdad police seize weapons, grenades in security operation

Baghdad police seized a cache of weapons and ammunition, including nine rifles, 13 offensive grenades and a rocket-propelled grenade, during a security operation in the capital’s Hay al-Kufa area on Saturday.
The seized weapons included Kalashnikov and Degtyaryov rifles, three pistols, 11 grenade detonators and 13 rifle magazines, Baghdad’s Al-Rusafa Police Command said in a statement.
Security forces also confiscated 60 rifle rounds, 160 PKC machine-gun rounds, 55 flare-gun rounds, five containers of 12.5-mm ammunition, four additional rounds of the same caliber and a government-owned Land Cruiser without registration documents.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of two suspects wanted under separate legal provisions and 145 people accused of violating residency requirements.
Police said the operation involved units from Al-Quds and Umm al-Kubur wal-Ghizlan police stations, Al-Shaab anti-crime forces, emergency patrols, the National Security Service, intelligence and explosives units, as well as forces responsible for security in the area.
