Tripartite meeting in Amman to discuss extending Iraqi oil pipeline
, the talks focused on the implementation of the project until Aqaba port and down to Egypt.
The newspaper quoted a diplomatic source described as trusted that this week will witness " an important meeting " between ministerial delegations from Egypt, Iraq , Jordan to discuss the arrangements to extend an oil pipeline until Egyptian territory , while the source didn’t mention signing of any agreements among the countries involved in the project .
Government sources said that the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources , Dr. Mohamed Hamed will meet with Iraqi and Egyptian sides , and that the meetings with the Egyptian side will talk about the subject of Egyptian gas supplies to Jordan .
The source added that the project has been submitted by eight companies , and the tender will be won by one of these companies where these companies submitted their offers which are expected to be studied during the tripartite meeting on the implementation to begin during next June.
It is worth mentioning that the oil pipeline runs from the fields of Basra in southern Iraq through western Iraq of a length of 700 km , while it will make its way in Jordanian territory to Aqaba province by a length of 1000 km .
The Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the establishment of a pipeline to export Iraqi oil through the territory of Jordan, at the time security tensions in Iraq's Anbar province caused cutting oil supplies to the Kingdom in addition to the disruption of Egyptian gas due to the explosions that the pipeline was exposed to in Sinai desert which added high economic burden on the state budget .
