Iraq: A new upcoming meeting to agree on the election law

Shafaq News / On Monday, the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee revealed an upcoming meeting of the political blocs to discuss the new amendments of the election law, while it indicated that there was no agreement yet on a specific formula.

A member of the committee, Hassan Fadaam, told Shafaq News agency, “it’s not for the Legal Committee to decide about the electoral districts, this matter needs an agreement among the blocs and political parties."

He added that "the various political blocs have not yet agreed on a specific mechanism, in order to vote on the law."

He explained that "there is an upcoming meeting of the political blocs in the coming days to discuss political proposals, unify visions and agree on a specific mechanism in this matter."

It’s noteworthy that The Iraqi parliament had passed part of the new election law late last year under unprecedented protests.
