Shafaq News / The spokesman for the Iraqi prime minister announced, on Monday, developments in the case of the assassination of security expert Hisham Al-Hashemi.

Ahmad Mulla Talal said, in a press conference after the cabinet session, which was attended by Shafaq News Agency correspondent, “Some accused persons have been identified and some case clues have been reached in the case of the assassination of Hisham Al-Hashemi.

He added, "It is not possible to announce details about the accused because they case is still under investigation."

Last July, unknown gunmen assassinated Al-Hashemi, 47, an expert in the army groups,  in front of his home in the Zayouna district, east of Baghdad.

Mulla Talal revealed in the press conference that the government will soon refer officials to the judiciary on charges of corruption.

Since its formation last May, the Al-Kadhimi’s government has made wide-ranging changes in high-ranking positions in the state, affecting security leaders and senior officials in the administration and financial institutions.

Regarding the position of Sayyed Al-Sistani about the election, Mulla Talal emphasized, "The statement of the religious authority is supportive of the government, which is going to fight corruption.”

Earlier, the supreme religious authority, Sayyed Ali al-Sistani, during his meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Hennes Plasschaert, announced, on Sunday, his support for holding early elections as scheduled (June 2021), and the necessity conditions that give their results credibility and confidence.

The spokesman for Iraqi Prime Minister declared that the 2020 budget voted by the Council of Ministers secured salaries for employees and retirees and social care.

He said, "This year's budget came in order to regulate the government spending process for the next 3 months, and to organize the process of internal and external borrowing."

Mulla Talal pointed out that "there is continuous work to prepare the 2021 budget, and it will be voted on by the Council of Ministers within 30 to 45 days," noting that "it will be different and will address many issues of concern to citizens."
